Today I continued working on the alternative version of the music of the main menu for my friend’s horror game. Even though I have a feeling this won’t be the final version I will be sending to him, I wanted to work on it some more because it has given me a chance to experiment more with Bosca Ceoil as well as practice my composing skills.

I am still continuing to use the same features/instrumentations I mentioned in the previous blog. Since the game is horror themed, I knew the music had to sound dark, creepy, and unsettling. Diminished chords are useful for those types of sounds so, I went with a few of them in the beginning. After that, I wasn’t sure where the direction of the track should go.

I picked up my classical guitar and began playing with different chord progressions to try to figure out what should come next. I decided to use an A minor add 9 chord since it has a melancholy and eerie sound to it. One thing to note is whenever I pick and choose a chord for the track, I like to arpeggiate it in one part and add melodic lines on top of triads, which are partial chords, in another track. So far, the piece is only 15 seconds long, however, it took me awhile to arrange as well rearrange the parts to make it flow nicely. All of this took me about an hour to complete.

As I stated before, I think the first version of the track will probably be used in my friend’s game instead of the alternative one. That being said, however, I do want to show him this version because if he likes what he hears, maybe he’ll want me to continue working on it for another future game of his.
